Georgia is an experienced advisor and litigator in commercial, insolvency and restructuring matters. Before joining Cornwalls, Georgia was a Senior Government Lawyer, and a Senior Associate at an international firm.
Georgia advises on all aspects of corporate insolvency law, acting for insolvency practitioners, government departments, secured creditors, and directors. She has particular expertise in priority disputes and asset distributions, security interests and the PPSA, liquidators’ and directors’ powers and duties, and corporate groups.
Beyond insolvency, Georgia’s experience extends to complex commercial disputes, including contract and property litigation and regulatory investigations. Georgia has advised on broad areas of financial services law including AFSL requirements, APRA standards and ASX rules, managed investment schemes and syndicated lending.
Georgia is a skilled communicator and negotiator, and takes a collaborative and practical approach to resolving disputes and achieving outcomes for her clients.
Experience
Georgia’s recent experience includes:
- Advising the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations FEG Recovery Program on law reform initiatives including proposed reforms to the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 and the Corporations Act 2001.
- Recovering FEG advances from insolvent estates, including through applications for directions and contested litigation.
- Liaising with government departments including the ATO, Department of Industry, Science and Resources and the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, to protect Commonwealth interests in complex high profile insolvencies.
- Acting for insolvency practitioners on all aspects of liquidations, voluntary administrations, receiverships and DOCAs across construction, agriculture and resources industries.
- Acting for secured and unsecured creditors to maximise recoveries from insolvent debtors.
- Acting for big four banks on restructuring syndicated lending facilities.
- Acting for corporate clients responding to regulatory investigations and royal commissions, including notices from ASIC, VGCCC and the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.
