Joel is an experienced intellectual property lawyer and has been a partner at Cornwalls for over five years.
His track record includes several years with the IP department of a top-tier national firm, a senior role with a boutique specialist IP firm and an in-house IP commercialisation role with a prestigious medical research institute. His specific areas of expertise include managing and enforcing trade marks, copyright, patents, designs and confidential information.
Among other things, Joel oversees our clients’ trade mark portfolios and leads the firm’s IP dispute resolution and litigation practice.

Resolving IP disputes arising after the breakdown of employment, distribution and other service relationships; this includes vast experience in IP litigation
All aspects of the trade mark prosecution process, including availability searching, preparing and filing new applications, overcoming objections raised at examination, the opposition process and portfolio management
Managing a network of trusted international associates who handle clients’ overseas IP needs
Drafting licence agreements, confidentiality agreements and IP sale and commercialisation agreements
Drafting and negotiating software development and licence agreements
Working closely with a network of patent attorneys, particularly in patent and design disputes, licensing and IP sales.
PRO BONO AND COMMUNITY WORK
Joel has been an active volunteer for nearly 20 years with Lord Somers Camp and Power House, a non-profit and independent community development organisation based in Victoria. He is also a former Director of the organisation and held many senior leadership roles in its flagship youth development program.
