Barry
heads the Revenue and Taxation group.
He has many years experience advising individuals, companies, partnerships,
trusts and not for profit organisations. In particular, he advises clients
on domestic and international taxation, mergers and acquisitions, business
structuring and re-organisation, capital raising, finance, investment
syndication and general commercial matters. He has a special interest
in the rural sector and the wine industry in particular.
Barry’s taxation practice includes advising charities and cultural
organisations on income tax exemptions and deductibility of donations,
corporate tax, capital gains tax, international tax, tax structuring,
employment taxes including fringe benefits tax, goods and services tax,
stamp duty and indirect taxes, objections, appeals and tax litigation.
He is an experienced plain English legal draughtsman. Barry commenced
his legal career in the Parliamentary Draughtsman’s office and
has been a specialist draughtsman in a major Australian law firm.
Barry holds Bachelor of Laws and Master of Taxation degrees from Melbourne
University and is a Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia. He
has been an active member of the International Bar Association (IBA)
and spent almost 10 years as Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the Professional
Development and Technology Division. He has presented papers on legal
practice management and technology to LBA seminars in Amsterdam, Berlin,
Lisbon, London and Montreaux.
