On 22 August 2006 the Federal Government doubled to 16 weeks the level of redundancy pay available to workers under GEERS.
This latest change is further to amendments to the GEERS scheme introduced late last year including:
excluding companies in administration, as opposed to liquidation, from the scheme;
extending GEERS to cover unpaid wages in the 3 month period before the employer became insolvent; and
including within the scheme the entitlements of employees who resigned or whose employment was terminated up to 6 months prior to the date of their employer’s insolvency.
